For decades Spooner has been supplying some of the most famous bread manufacturers with provers, ovens and coolers, and as technology has improved so has the Spooner solutions.

Now, with baked goods ranges rapidly expanding and a stronger focus on manufacturers having to show efficiencies, emission reductions and sustainability, food manufacturers are demanding more from their process equipment.

One thing Spooner has always prided itself on is supporting customers to achieve fantastic results but with energy-efficient equipment that supports their net zero targets.

The Challenges

Owing to volatile gas and electric prices, which are likely to continue, many of Spooner’s customers are looking to reduce costs while maintaining their existing quality across all their bakery sites.

One recent Spooner customer was facing this challenge. Currently, they operate a number of ovens installed at various points over the last 20+ years, all serviced regularly by SpoonerPlus. All equipment was performing extremely well and meeting expectations – processing thousands of loaves per hour. However, the spiralling operating costs were concerning.

The Solutions

Following a site visit and inspection of their operation, Spooner was able to propose the installation of a Spooner Heat Recovery System. Designed to minimise energy loss and improve efficiency, the bespoke heat recovery system can be designed and manufactured for a new installation or retrofitted to existing equipment. In this case a gas-fired oven.

Other benefits of the Spooner Heat Recovery System include:

  • Help reduce production costs thanks to the reuse of heated exhaust air

The Result

Following a successful installation and commissioning the initial savings reported back from the customer were up to 150kW per hour – something the customer is extremely happy with, as it reduces their reliance on gas and takes them further ahead on their net zero journey.
